Professor Adam Holbrook
Consultant on Engineering and Innovation
Experience:  Professor Holbrook has over 30 years of experience conducting policy research on science, technology and innovation issues. He is currently Associate Director, Centre for Policy Research on Science and Technology (CPROST), and an Adjunct Professor, School of Communications, at Simon Fraser University. Since 2001, he has served as the Western Canada sub-network regional director for the Innovation Systems Research Network (ISRN) funded by SSHRC and is presently conducting a five-year SSHRC-supported research project entitled: The Role of Local and Regional Industrial Clusters in Canada (2006-2011), as part of the second phase of the ISRN project. He previously served at Treasury Board Secretariat of Canada where he was responsible for advice, evaluation and analysis of a number of portfolios such as:  Science and Technology (including the National Research Council and NSERC); the Canadian International Development Agency; and Communications.  While at the Ministry of State for Science and Technology (MOSST), he was Manager of the S&T Economic Analysis Division and also served as Senior Policy Advisor for the Science Strategy Branch, Industry Canada.  In these positions, he was responsible for advice, evaluation, and analysis concerning federal S&T expenditures, S&T economic policy, and S&T and innovation performance measurement.  Mr. Holbrook is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), registered in Ontario and BC.

SPR Projects:  Some recent SPR projects in which Mr. Holbrook has participated include:  Evaluation of the New Opportunities Fund (for the Canada Foundation for Innovation, 2007); and A Delphi Study of Emerging Technology Sectors (for the National Research Council, 2006-07).
